It’s been close to ten years since Damien Chazelle took home the Academy Award for best director for 2016's La La Land , his musical love letter to Los Angeles starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling . Of course, he then found himself at the center of one of the Oscars’ most memorable mix-ups when Faye Dunaway accidentally announced that his film had won best picture.
“It is a little weird. It doesn’t feel like 10 years.
It feels like maybe 10 months,” Chazelle exclusively told Vanity Fair Friday. “It’s that sort of thing where time kind of bends.
So on some level it feels so distant. On other levels, yeah, it feels like yesterday.”

Nothing was mistaken at the inaugural Cartier Cinema Club dinner held at Venice’s Gritti Palace, where Chazelle’s La La Land was honored with dinner on the canal overlooking the Basilica della Salute. “I love Venice as a city and I love the festival, so it was a nice excuse,” said Chazelle of the dinner.
While it wasn’t held in the city of stars, plenty of stars came out to celebrate the 10th anniversary of La La Land . Amal Clooney stunned in a red gown, as did Oscar-winner Chloé Zhao , fresh off delivering a master class on the Lido, went from table to table chatting with guests as dinner was served.
Bucking Fastard stars Kate Mara and Orlando Bloom , who introduced himself to his table mates as “Lando,” were also on hand.
