In sweatpants and embroidered memory-foam slippers, Jennifer Lawrence pads into the newly opened Dior Spa Hotel Cipriani at Hotel Cipriani, A Belmond Hotel, Venice. That in itself is a sight to behold, but as she sits down next to me, she easily opens a bottle of water that I had been struggling with moments before. Consider me doubly impressed.

Lawrence has just finished shooting Martin Scorsese’s thriller What Happens at Night with Leonardo DiCaprio in Brooklyn, which means it’s time to switch up her fitness routine and go all-in on strength training. “I’ve been trying to work out more because when I’m working, I don’t put that pressure on myself,” she tells me.

Yoga is her new class of choice, and she needs that structure “because if I have a trainer, I’ll just manipulate them and end up talking the whole time. Lay on my back and be like, ‘So what was your childhood like?’” says Lawrence.

“I didn’t use to think of yoga as a workout, but it is.” Not hot yoga, though, because anything that triggers melasma (something we share!) is handled with care, something I learn in the course of our conversation.

Close up on a cream bouclé love seat, Lawrence really is keeping it spa-day light (she speaks “pee-pee-poo-poo” into my phone when I announce I’m recording), really is unfiltered (calls me “moneybags” for throwing out a moldy humidifier instead of cleaning it with vinegar), and really is making me laugh in that way other girls with older brothers always can. She wears no visible makeup and has no visible pores (not that there’s anything wrong with the ones you can see!), and her natural waves fall in a perfectly chill way over her plain white tee.
