His new series begins with Charlotte, who endured an ex-partner’s coercive control. Plus: David Attenborough goes for the double at the National Television Awards. Here’s what to watch this evening

9pm, U&W Relationship expert Paul C Brunson fronts this new series, which takes a case-by-case look at various forms of emotional, sexual and psychological manipulation. It starts with Charlotte, who recounts an affair that passed through love-bombing, suicide threats and coercive control, and eventually culminated in violence. The goal is to help others spot red flags – but it’s also a tribute to Charlotte, who appears brave and candid. Phil Harrison

8pm, BBC One Sophie Willan’s “titans of the thimble” assemble for the semi-final – and it’s a tricky technical challenge, using pleather made from pineapple leaves and cactus to make jackets. Then they need to turn a man’s shirt into a wedding guest outfit, and make a timeless little black dress. Hollie Richardson

8pm, BBC Two In Appledore, North Devon, RNLI volunteers zoom off after a 999 call about a teenager who has tried to save a paralysed surfer from drowning. Elsewhere in the heart-racing rescue show, two paddleboarders are lost and a dog has been taken by the tide in south Wales. HR

8pm, ITV1 To the O2 Arena in Londonfor a night of gags and glitz hosted by Joel Dommett. Expect plenty of recognition for sensations including The Celebrity Traitors and Heated Rivalry. But don’t be surprised if it turns into an extended tribute to TV’s very own Galápagos tortoise, David Attenborough, who has been nominated for two centenary-celebrating awards. P H

9pm, Channel 4 This series, in which a real case is deliberated upon by a filmed jury, has the knack of confronting viewers with their own prejudices. This episode is a case in point: much hangs upon the concept of diminished responsibility, but is such a defence ever an excuse? Lively debate ensues. PH

9pm, Channel 5 Season two of the cat-and-mouse drama, starring Jason Watkins as the clenched fist Huw and Robson Green (who needs Jerome?) doing his best James Bond villain as the poshly spoken Patrick. In this episode, Jenny seems to be on to him, but Huw is keen to keep the plan moving forward. Priya Elan
