Stevie Wonder announces ‘Songs In The Key Of Life’ 50th anniversary UK tour

Stevie Wonder has announced a series of dates across the UK for his ‘Songs In The Key Of Life’ 50th anniversary tour – check out all the details below.

The legendary artist will celebrate the legacy of the diamond-selling 1976 record with a run of performances kicking off at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham on October 13. From there, he’ll make stops at London’s O2 on November 3, Manchester’s Co-Op Live Arena on November 8, before wrapping with a night in Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on November 11.

Containing enduring classics like ‘As’, ‘Love’s in Need of Love Today’, ‘Sir Duke’ and ‘Isn’t She Lovely’, the Grammy-winning ‘Songs In The Key Of Life’ has been credited as one of the most influential albums ever created, and was inducted into the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry.

The album also went on to become Wonder’s highest charting UK record ever, peaking at Number 2 on the Official Albums Chart, and he’s set to perform it in its entirety this winter.

Last year, Wonder vowed to keep playing for as long as he was breathing, saying “an artist never stops drawing” .

During an episode of the BBC’s Sidetracked podcast, he told host Annie Mac that while his music contemporaries like Billy Joel and Eagles may be slowing down their touring commitments, he wants to keep going for years to come.

“For as long as you breathe, for as long as your heart beats, there’s more for you to do,” he said. “I’m not gonna stop the gift that keeps pouring through my body.”

Elsewhere in the interview – which took place a day before he headlined BST Hyde Park – the Motown legend also confirmed that he is working on a new album, which will be his first in 20 years.

The LP is called ‘Through The Eyes Of Wonder’, and has been hinted at by the musician since 2008, but has not yet been released. According to interviews he’s done and hints he has shared over the year, the record comes as a performance piece that will reflect his experience as a blind man.

More recently, Wonder joined the likes of Bruce Springsteen , U2 ’s Bono and the Edge , Eddie Vedder and more in performing at Obama Presidential Center’s grand opening ceremony .

Wonder closed the show with lively renditions of ‘All I Do’ and ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)’, before inviting Vedder, Springsteen, Common , Christina Aguilera , Common , Jennifer Hudson , and The Roots on stage to perform ‘Higher Ground’.

“I want you to remember, all of you, never let fear put your dreams to sleep,” he urged the crowd during his portion of the set.
