‘Orbitals’ retro synth-pop soundtrack is available on streaming and vinyl

Sci-fi co-op puzzle game Orbitals launched for the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this month and now the soundtrack has been released on streaming.

Set in a retro anime world, Orbitals players team up as Maki and Omura, “two inseparable explorers with a whole lot more determination than experience.”

“You’ll brave the perils of space in search of help for their crumbling station home, now trapped within a supernatural cosmic storm. Our duo must venture beyond the storm and into the unknown in a desperate bid to save their home. It’ll take brains, bravery, and teamwork to make it through,” explains an official description of the game.

And following a successful launch, indie game developers Shapefarm have teamed up with Laced Audio to share the game’s gorgeous soundtrack.

The full 41-song soundtrack from composer duo Falk & Klou is available to buy via Bandcamp or stream on Spotify . A 7” vinyl featuring Orbitals main theme ‘Accelerating Destiny (加速する運命)’ and credits theme ‘Heart To Heart’ on Side A and karaoke instrumental versions on Side B is also available to pre-order via Laced .

“Created for Shapefarm’s retro anime-inspired co-op game, the album channels classic 1980s sci-fi aesthetics through soaring melodies, electrifying synthwork, and nostalgic soundscapes,” reads a press release. “Whether you are braving the perils beyond the Storm Wall or simply soaking in 80s anime nostalgia, this full digital release delivers the ultimate high-energy, retro-futuristic audio experience.”

Fredrik is a synth expert who runs a vintage synthesiser company and started out composing music for Commodore 64 games. Carl-Johan is the bass player in alternative rock band Mando Diao. This is the duo’s debut video game soundtrack as Falk & Klou, which was created with the vision “what if the ‘80s never ended?”.

Released earlier this month (September 3) Orbitals has received positive reviews from both critics and players. “ Orbitals set out to do something very specific: deliver an action-packed co-operative game while building a new world inspired by anime classics. On those two notes, it smashes it out of the park. My main complaint is that I wanted much more of it,” wrote NintendoLife in their glowing review.

In other news, Rockstar has confirmed exactly when you’ll be able to play Grand Theft Auto 6 when it launches on November 19.
