X-Men Watch Order: All 13 Films by Release and Timeline
The Fox-era X-Men series runs 13 films, and prequels plus the timeline reset in Days of Future Past make the chronology famously tangled. First-timers should use release order; switch to story timeline for in-universe chronology.

Frequently asked questions
What order should a first-timer watch X-Men in?
Release order, starting from the 2000 original. Days of Future Past resets the timeline, and it lands better if you watch the films the way audiences did.
Why is the X-Men timeline so messy?
The prequel saga starts in 1962, and Days of Future Past rewrites history in 1973, so Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix follow a new timeline while the original trilogy and Logan head toward 2029 on the old one. Our timeline mode uses the mainstream consensus placement.
Do the Deadpool films matter to the main story?
Barely. They run parallel to the team films with meta jokes and cameos, and work fine as standalone comedies. Deadpool & Wolverine is already folded into the MCU list.
Why does Logan go last?
It is set in 2029, the chronological endpoint of the saga, and it is widely considered the best entry. Save it for last whichever mode you pick.
How does this connect to the MCU?
This list covers the 13 Fox-era films. Marvel Studios is developing an MCU reboot, and Deadpool & Wolverine bridged the two worlds—it lives on the MCU watch-order page.
